It’s another late night for me and you’d think I’d be ready to wind down after some craziness over the past week.We just did Black Friday, Shop Small Saturday, Cyber Monday, and T-shirt Tuesday all right in a row.I only got to take a break on Thanksgiving Day but other than that it’s one 14-16 hour day after the next.Oh, it sounds like I’m complaining, but I’m really not.I love this stuff or else I wouldn’t do it-and, you guys make it all worth while.
Well, somehow it’s almost the end of November, and that means chaos for our workload and waistlines. I just want to get this all down so we, I mean you, know what we’re doing for all these special holiday sales.
When we drop a new product we never know how it will connect with people.Right now we have a collection of “normal things” and “abnormal things” going on and we’re careful to not over explain designs because we want people to just have fun with them and take them any direction their little hearts desire… and quite often people connect with our products in ways we wouldn’t even imagine.
Probably one of the hardest lessons to learn when trying to get any significant project off the ground is how to brush off the dirt in the aftermath of obstacles and mistakes. How many hits can you take before you accept that something can't be done?
So Tuesdays are where it’s at! We’re going to announce a new design every other Tuesday, post about it that week and then release it a week later. So our cadence will be announce, release, announce, release and we can all be thinking Taco Tuesdays just became T-shirt Tuesdays, or Taco and T-shirt Tuesdays or whatever.
Halloween is a fun and weird time of year where spooky imagery comes out of the horror genre corner of culture and joins the mainstream. We love it but we don't love the idea of an "obligatory" halloween shirt.
One of the biggest events in Venice, CA each year is theAbbot Kinney Festival. It's a fun day of street vendors, food trucks and music. The past two years have been so wild for us so we've barely been able to think a week ahead to do anything special for the event.
I can hear Ozzy’s voice sounding unusually subdued but still sincere as the words “I’m going through changes” play through my mind. Change can be a vulnerable place to be, stepping out of some mode of comfort or familiarity to make an adjustment in your life. Confidence may be a little shaky and questions bombard your thoughts as you prepare to make the shift to whatever is next.
It’s not always sunny in paradise. The idea that SoCal is sunshine, palm trees and unicorns all year round is a common misconception. There are a few months before summer is in full swing where the weather is just mild and moody. This time of year is dubbed June Gloom (also called May Gray). As the air starts to warm up, the waters of the Pacific Ocean are still relatively cold, which causes clouds to settle over the ocean and creep onto land by morning. It’s pretty rough for the folks of SoCal... it may even cause some frizzing of the hair. But we all hang in there and our most recent design is inspired by this foggy phenomenon.
I just skated up to Santa Monica this morning to grab a coffee and take some time to myself to think.I shot a video with my good friend Pedro last night for a project he’s working on with Charity Water (I’ll let you guys know when it comes out).During the shoot he asked me a lot of questions about Vardagen and whenever I get interviewed I start to realize how much information is bottled up inside me.
