Keep Going - an Outdoor Adventure

We hit the road in our Sprinter van to get away and get inspired. Follow our YouTube channel and get ready for some cool outdoor designs dropping soon!

Who’s haunting your house harder right now? You? Or actual ghosts? They’re probably annoyed that you’re doing their job better than them. You know, moaning, wandering the halls, moving things around in the kitchen with no particular purpose... there’s no actual reason for this question, just wanted to make a funny observation........

Funny how things happening around you can change your perspective on stuff like... say... an alien abduction.  2019- "Probably rather not..." 2020- "Probably, why not!?"

Everyday Things

I know this is a sensitive subject - but after reading about the passing of Virgil today, I had a rush of things come to mind. I’ve admired Virgil’s work for a long time. I love that he always seemed to be himself, had a crazy work ethic, wasn’t afraid to break the mold and had the confidence to put out even the simplest of designs. Creatives have the tendency to second-guess their work a lot because it’s so subjective and often personal. There have been so many times that I’ve felt that no one else would relate to something we’re putting out and have talked myself out of letting it see the light of day. Watching fashion designers at the highest levels has helped me overcome some of those fears.
I’m just reflecting today since it’s Shop Small Saturday and also just feeling so thankful after looking at yesterday’s sales numbers.  We’re still in the process of recovering from our many losses over here. There’s been a lot of moments when I’ve wondered if we will ever fully recover, and then times like today when I feel like it’s completely doable.

We're taking a bunch of product out to our LA store next week and thought we'd setup a quick pop-up shop here before we leave (we'll be back in a few weeks).  Come hang with us,  grab some crazy deals and some free drinks and snacks.  We'll also have some giveaways.  This is a really low-key event but we just want to see people again... hope you can come!

I was flipping through Instagram and came across a post that said something like this:

If you feel off, go back to doing what makes you you

I kinda hate posts with sayings like this but that one made me think. I’ve felt off for a while now, and after a year of craziness it’s really hard as an entrepreneur to feel like going after big things without feeling like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football.

The connection between you and me is the daily work and tendency to screw up in spite of all our best efforts.

Time spent outdoors is virtually always nice, but when you feel like a ghost haunting your own house, the allure of a green getaway has probably gotten magnified a bit. Would be real nice to haunt a hammock somewhere peaceful for a little while...right?
SO… why the heck are we in Park Rapids, MN? Sheesh, I thought you’d never ask. Tina and I rented out our house in Indianapolis to live and work in Venice last year, but what used to be an inspiring place for us to plan and create new collections, became a place that we just wanted to escape. I’m sure you feel the same way, wherever you’re located. I started dreaming about creating an outdoor adventure collection.

As upheaval continues to smash the asphalt of our society's infrastructures and humans continue to struggle against each other over virtually every topic imaginable, the thought of being whisked away to an exotic world far away from this one could be appetizing to some.

A kid's bedroom door. Comical signs saying "No parents allowed" and "dinosaur crossing" etc decorate the basic faux-wood facade.

Door swings out as if opened by a ghost and camera enters room, pans to the right, and centers on a kid performing generic play action at a comically small table.

This project took a lot of creative muscle to pull off quickly and we just wanted to give you guys a little inside peek at our thought process. When the pandemic hit we said we’d double down and work harder than ever and get more creative to try to encourage others around us and to keep our little brand afloat. Vardagen is about everyday human experiences on everyday things like t-shirts. We’ve been exploring all the different emotions and feelings around a worldwide situation that has effected everyone’s everyday lives.
